"The Boy" 2016

Well here I go trying to start this awesome Horror movie blog and after one entry I completely abandon it. I do not do these things on purpose I, like most gore fans, have a very short attention span. Well let me get something going.
Every time a new Horror movie comes out I go and see it in theaters. There are two types of movies I have to see on the big screen and that is Scary movies and Action movies. I find it very necessary to be in a position with a big clear screen and wonderful surround sound for horror. There are always subtle creatures or things lurking in the shadows and faint noises going on in the background. Watching a horror film on a small TV with no surround sound is just so wrong.
The most recent horror film I saw on the big screen was "The Boy". It came out January 22nd 2016 and stars Lauren Cohan from "The Walking Dead" this is the first time I have seen her play a different character than Maggie and I got to say I for the most part enjoyed this movie. It starts off very slow but completely surprised me with the ending! I can normally always guess or predict pretty closely on what is going to happen in movies but this one got me.
The movie starts with the main character Greta traveling from America to England to be a live in nanny. She arrives at a big run down colonial house in the middle of no where to meet the very old husband and wife of the child she will be watching. Right away you get a "crazy" vibe from the woman. She is then introduced to the child she will be watching which turns out to be a wooden DOLL. The couple goes about their lives treating this doll like a real boy and Greta who laughs at first quickly realizes this is no joke and goes along with it until the couple leaves for their vacation. Of course after the parents leave Greta treats the doll like any one would a doll not a child and that is when weird stuff starts to happen. The doll does not like being left alone, whenever it is left alone it will move and do things like turn on music or lock doors. The only person Greta has to share this misery is with the grocery boy who often makes deliveries to the house. The premise of this movie is really creepy the doll even has a set of rules like needs to be fed and changed into clothes and pajamas everyday. Also likes to listen to classical music very loud. There were a couple parts that made me jump but the thing that stood out the most to me was the ending. I 100% did not see it coming, I thought the movie was going in a completely different direction. With the said I do think that a movie should have more than just a good premise and shocking ending it should have had a better build up. I was reminded of the first Paranormal Activity which again was a movie I enjoyed but it felt like you are waiting through the entire movie for something to happen and its not until the ending things get good. I will absolutely give credit where credit is do and acknowledge the fact that the biggest problem horror movies have is that they have trouble with the ending so kudos Stacey Menear on your original plot twist ending. I highly recommend watching this movie once but definitely rent it no need for a second viewing.
